Has your computer crashed and your hard drive died? Or do you want to plan to be prepared for such a drastic situation? Just imagine what a disaster it would be to lose files and other information that you have been gathering for so many years! Of course you can avoid such a tragic case scenario by routinely taking backups. If taking backups seems time-consuming you can find many programs that automatically take backups while you’re not working on your computer or laptop. Even if you haven’t been taking backups, there are many utilities available to retrieve your data and you may also seek help from a professional who knows how to retrieve data and other computer files from a crashed computer.

If your Windows computer has crashed and there is no way you can access your computer files and other data there is still a way you can save your data using the Ubuntu live CD. A good thing about Ubuntu is that you can run it from a CD and so that you don’t need a hard drive. This tutorial tells you how to retrieve data and other computer files from a crash computer using the Ubuntu live CD.

Even when you have deleted a file on your computer or laptop the file still remains there and it can be retrieved using free or commercial tools. No, I’m not talking about retrieving the files from the Recycle bin. Even if you empty the recycle bin the files can still be accessed by a person who knows how to access them. Actually what happens is when you delete a file it doesn’t actually get deleted, it remains there until some other data overwrites it. Now this may happen immediately or it may take months, or even years for that space to get overwritten.

Deleting your files completely is very important for the safety of your confidential information. You may also want to completely delete all your personal files from the hard disk before selling your old PC. Using some free utilities you can completely delete your files, or “shred” them before handing your PC to someone else. This blog post illustrates one of such utilities.

Memory here means the RAM you have and I guess some of us know that we require RAM to run all applications (otherwise they are residing quietly somewhere on the hard disk). Now unless you are needlessly sneaky, why do you need to know what sort of memory you have got? For upgrades. If you need to upgrade your memory you should be able to figure out what sort of memory you already have.
