by Sarah Watts

When you keep a pet for many years sooner or later there comes a time when you have to be prepared for a pet emergency. Your pet may fall sick or get injured or even get lost, or there can be a natural or man-made disaster such as a fire, riots, earthquake, floods and tornadoes. If you are prepared in advance then you are in a better position to handle the excruciating pet emergency. First of all to avoid sudden sickness routinely take your pet to your local vet for checkups. Make sure that your pet has access to clean water and food all the time and it is never allowed to eat things lying on the road. When taking your pet out keep it on leash so that it doesn’t run away and endanger its life or catch some sort of sickness from the surrounding wilderness. Make sure that your pet does not mingle with stray animals because stray animals are normally full of disease that can be easily transferred over to your pet. Keep your doors closed if your pet has a tendency to run out.

In case of medical emergencies it can save you many precious moments if you have a record of your pet’s previous illnesses and the medicines that were given to your pet.

The best thing is have a plan for all sorts of the emergencies that you cannot control take for instance natural disasters. Read at this link how to be prepared for a pet emergency to keep your pet safe.
