How To Do Persuasive Writing

by Sarah Watts on September 28, 2007

You can make use of persuasive writing whether you write a blog or for a regular website (actually in any kind of writing that needs to convince people). The art of persuasion is as old as the human civilization; OK, older than that: even animals use it.

Persuasive writing is far more challenging than persuasive speaking because when your readers read your writing, normally you are not present there. Your words have to do all the persuasion. So you have to make sure that nothing relevant remains unsaid. Here are a few things to remember if you want to be persuasive in your writing:

  • Highlight the benefits first.
  • Be truthful.
  • Put your readers’ interest first.
  • Use references and testimonials.
  • Write convincingly.
  • Use language that is easy to understand but elegant to read.
  • Repeat the central message to keep your readers focused.
  • Talk like an expert

I’m trying to write a hook, but can’t seem to write it in the right words. I’m writing them too negative, or it’s too dull. I NEED HELP!
