A good advise on the link I’m just going to present is, if you want to plan your career then do not plan it. Instead of planning your career, you should plan on how to develop your skills and professional abilities. Once you know how to develop your skills and professional abilities, you automatically know how you should plan your career.
In order to plan your career you need to first of all know what you want to achieve in life?
- Is it money and status?
- Is it lots of influence and socio-political power?
- Do you want to settle in another city or country?
- Do you want to provide better financial security to your family?
- Do you want to spend more time with your loved ones or you don’t mind living away from them for long periods?
- What matters to you: money or happiness, or both?
- Do you want to bring some positive change in the lives of others?
- Do you want to contribute to the society?
- Do you want to leave behind a legacy?
- Do you want to retire early and then pursue your passions?
Frankly, the list can go on and on but what I’m trying to emphasize here is that to plan your career you need to first understand what you want from your life. The rest is explained in a long, but excellent post on Marc Andreessen’s blog.
