How to run Ubuntu under Windows

Note: In recent releases you can run a utility called Wubi and using this you can easily run Ubuntu under Windows. Simply burn the ISO image on to a CD and run the Wubi program. Under Windows then you can run Ubuntu just like any other program and some claim it works as fast as a real Ubuntu installation. Later on you can choose to install it as a separate operating system

If you want to switch over to Ubuntu but you are not ready to leave the Windows environment immediately that you would like to know how to run Ubuntu under Windows. Ubuntu is a great operating system provided you know how to make it work, especially if you have been working under Windows for years.  There might be many things you’re so used to under Windows that you won’t be able to find exactly the same in Ubuntu.

But if you’re really serious about switching over to Ubuntu but are scared of losing all your environment then there is a better option for you: running Ubuntu under Windows.  You may think that this completely defeats the purpose of using Ubuntu, but it will give you ample chance to familiarise yourself with the new environment before the complete switchover.
