Compared to Google and Yahoo! not many searchers use the MSN search engine but I think it is the third most-used search engines after Google and Yahoo! so it’s better that you know how to SEO your blog or website for MSN too. And it’s not very difficult and in fact, it’s easier to SEO your blog or website for MSN compared to Google and Yahoo! and I’ve personally experienced this. When you are just starting your SEO compaign it’s better to target MSN first because it is easier to rank well there.
SEO for MSN
Since like other major search engines MSN doesn’t get much attention from SEO consultants, not much literature and advise is available to help you SEO your blog or website for MSN, and I’m sharing here whatever I know, and whatever has worked for me.
- Relevant content: like any other search engine MSN wants relevant content from your blog or website. So this is something that you should have for every search engine. Stick to your theme and provide unique, high-value content and most search engines will appreciate you for that.
- Unique title for every page: this happens with your blog posts, but use unique titles for all the pages that you create. Your title represents the content of your page. Use your keywords in the title, but they should justify their presence there and shouldn’t just be stuffed needlessly.
- Lots of incoming links: MSN likes lots of incoming links to your blog or website.
- A decent sitemap: again, this holds true for every search engine.
- Keywords in your content: don’t overuse them, but use them at appropriate places such as with headline tags and as anchor text while interlining your pages.
I guess basically you can use these steps to SEO for any search engines, it’s just that to get higher ranking at MSN is easier.
