How To Start Windows XP Faster
Does your Windows XP take age to start or logon? This is because whenever you start your computer or reboot it, Windows XP tries to start all the programs in the Startup folder simultaneously (click Start and then click Run and there, run msconfig — under the Startup tab you’ll see the programs that start at the startup). For instance, if it starts loading program A, it doesn’t wait for A to load completely and starts loading program B. Since many programs are trying to start chaos prevail resulting in a slow startup. You have two options:
- Unselect programs that you think you don’t need every time your Windows XP starts.
- Use some utility like Startup Delayer that creates intervals between the loading of various programs.
Now, wouldn’t delaying slow down your startup further. Theoretically, it should, but actually it doesn’t. Allowing the programs to use system resources judiciously allows them to load much faster and consequently, speeding up your Windows XP startup.
When you have installed the Startup Delayer it runs and displays you a list of all the programs that load during the startup. Before doing anything click a red button labeled SD (it’s an overturned triangle) and selected the graphical version.
Then click on the individual programs and set the delay times. Set them between 3-5 seconds each, and if you feel you don’t need some programs to start immediately you can make them start even after 30 minutes or an hour.
That’s it. Now when you start next time your Windows XP should start faster. This software doesn’t work for Windows Vista.
