How To Teach Kids About Money
You should teach kids about money when they are young because then they have very impressionable minds and they are not going to forget things easily if they assimilate them during their formative years.
Kids often think that money comes from their parents and they can spend them whenever they want to. Although it’s your kids’ right to be demanding of you and your kids shouldn’t think they will have to struggle hard whenever they needs to buy a toy, a game, or eat out, there are some habits of frugality that you can gradually develop without creating undue pressure or resentment.
For instance, allocate a monthly budget to your kids. Give them some money at the beginning of every month and tell them they can use that money to go out with their friends, buy new toys, or save it. Politely, but firmly convey to them that they will not be given more money. If they complain that their friends don’t have such restrictions, explain to them that it’s very intelligent to live within a budget and all grownups do that. Kids feel very good if they think they are being asked to do things that grownups do.
