How to transfer your files from one computer to another

Have you just bought a new computer and you want to transfer files from your old computer to the new one? The reason could be anything, when you make computers and laptops a regular part and parcel of your personal and professional life you will be regularly switching files and data between different computers.

When you’re changing your computer it is not a good idea to copy the old hard disk as it is because then you will also be copying all the problems and wrong settings of that computer. The best way to handle this is install all the software you’re going to need and then just transfer data, images and documents from your old computer. Modern operating systems like Windows XP store documents and data files in specific folders so that you can easily find them when you need to access them, for whatever purpose. For instance if you want to access the data associated with Firefox simply go to Documents and Settings, and then to your user folder, then to Application Data, then to Mozilla and then to Firefox. Simply copy this folder to the similar path in the new computer to import all your Firefox settings. In the similar fashion you can also copy Internet Explorer data and all the e-mails and contacts. All your documents are most probably in your My Documents.

In order to transfer files from one computer to another you will somehow need to connect them or use a device that can be used to transfer files. The best way to transfer files from one computer to another is to use either an external USB drive or a thumb drive. You can transfer complete movies with a thumb drive.
