I believe writing is a skill that is:
- Inherent
- Acquired
- Self-acquired
In my case my writing skills were totally acquired by reading other great writers; first books and then the Internet. I earn my living writing (and coding in PHP but that’s on the side) and since people pay me for writing, I can easily assume I’ve learned something at least.
Getting inspiration from other writers shouldn’t be confused with plagiarism. Inspiration is something you can get from all good and bad things existing in this world. All great writers were inspired to write by their surroundings, by their beliefs and by historical and contemporary writers. You can get writing inspiration even by observing an ant trying to carry 50 time more weight than her own weight.
