First of all is somebody unfollows you you shouldn’t take it to your heart, because it doesn’t mean that the person doesn’t want to keep in touch with you, it might be just that there is lots of noise in his or her timeline and he or she wants to trim it a bit. Why do people unfollow you or unfriend you on Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere?

The reasons can be as different as there are people following you or befriending you. You might be saying something that upsets them. You might be following, befriending or liking people and updates they don’t agree with. Maybe your political ideas don’t match. Maybe you post too much. Maybe they cannot recall why they started following you or became your friend and now they want to keep in touch only with those they remember or know. So when they start following you, when they start tracking your updates, it means they are really interested in you. The same happens with your prospective customers and clients. When they are following your brand page or your Twitter account, you know that they are interested in you or your business. When they unfollow you, when the unfriend you, you have lost a prospect. You would like to get that person back to you. When you get notified, you can take appropriate measures.

  • Tracking unfollows on Twitter: Unfollowr is quite old. Yoyu start following them on Twitter and whenever somebody follows you you will get a direct message.
  • Tracking Unlikes and unfriends on Facebook: Social Fixer is a browser extension that basically alters your Facebook interface. One of its features is notifying you when people unfriend you. Once you have installed the browser extension, in the layout options you will need to check the “Friend Tracker” checkbox in order to see the notifications right in front of you.
